Passport police verification in Pune: how it works
After your Passport Seva Kendra appointment, your file goes to the police station for your present address: Pune City Police, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police or Pune Rural Police. An officer confirms your identity and address, either at your home or at the station, and files a report marked Clear, Adverse or Incomplete. A Clear report lets the passport office print and post your passport. Police verification is free.

File reaches the police
After your appointment, the passport office sends a verification request to the police station for your address.

The officer checks your identity and address and may ask neighbours or your landlord to confirm you live there.
Report and dispatch
The report is uploaded online. If it is Clear, the passport is printed and sent to you by Speed Post.

How long does passport police verification take in Pune?
It depends on the police station and on how quickly you can be reached. Many are completed within a few weeks of the appointment. Keeping your phone on and your documents ready is the best way to avoid delays.
Do I have to pay for police verification?
No. Police verification for a passport is free. Do not pay anyone to clear it, and raise any demand for money with the Regional Passport Office.
What if I miss the police visit or call?
Call back the number that contacted you or visit the police station for your address with your documents. If you are not sure which station it is, we can help you find out.
What does an Adverse police verification report mean?
The police found a problem, such as an address that does not match your proof or a pending case. The passport office may ask you to clarify or submit documents. Reply quickly with proof.
Can verification be done at my permanent address instead?
Verification is done at the present address in your application. If you have lived there less than a year, your earlier addresses may also be checked.
Is police verification needed for passport renewal?
Not always. When your details have not changed, many re-issues are cleared without fresh verification. The passport office can still order it, and it is standard for fresh passports.
How do I check my police verification status?
Use Track Application Status on the Passport Seva website or the mPassport Seva app with your file number. The status shows when the police report has been received.
Does my landlord need to be present for verification?
There is no rule that your landlord must be present. The officer may speak to your landlord or neighbours to confirm you live there, so it helps if they know your name.
